Wallbox installation checklist for shared buildings

A starting point for installing a wallbox in a block of flats, shared garage or car park. Confirm the specific requirements with a qualified electrician.

  1. Power supply. Check the main fuse rating and the contracted power. A wallbox needs 3.7–7.4 kW single-phase or 11–22 kW three-phase.
  2. Consent. If the cable or the charger is in common areas, get a decision of the owners' general meeting or their written consent.
  3. Electrician. Ask for a site visit, a written quote and the documents after installation.
  4. Cable. The shortest safe route from the distribution board; cross-section according to power and length.
  5. Protection. A dedicated circuit with its own circuit breaker. Residual current device type A if the charger detects 6 mA DC leakage; otherwise type B. Earthing to current regulations.
  6. Metering. A separate meter or a charger with built-in metering. With several chargers, dynamic load management.
  7. Paperwork. Check whether a permit is needed. After installation, get the test report. Notify the grid operator if your contract requires it.
